Stan Lemelle
A recognized face in Louisiana’s legal community, Stan spent 35 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, including nearly 20 years as Chief of the Criminal Division. Stan also served various stints during his career as the U.S. Attorney of the Middle District. Stan’s job included making recommendations on criminal cases and offering advice on plea agreements.
He served a total of five U.S. Attorneys who relied on his guidance on all decisions affecting criminal cases. He personally tried or led a number of high-profile criminal corruption cases, including:
- Roland F. Coppola Sr., former state police commander in Lafayette and a reputed associate of the late crime boss Carlos Marcello, for theft
- Former state representative for corruption
- Former state elections commissioner for tax fraud
- Former East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council member Gordon Curry Jr. for conspiracy and aiding and abetting corruption
- Former Greensburg Police Chief James “Ricky” Webb for participation in a vote-buying conspiracy
- Former Livingston Parish Prison Warden Arthur B. Ross for mail fraud
- Former attorney Julius X. Johnson for mail fraud
- Former attorney David Dirks for mail fraud
